The Venice of Africa

Around Benin's lake Nokoue, the price of land and poverty has pushed people to build houses further and further from the shore and the shallow waters of the lake are rapidly colonised by settlements like this. The only means of transportation is by boat, earning it the nickname, the Venice of Africa. Photos by Pierre-Julien Quiers
